Target Audience and Goal Statement:
This activity intends to instruct physicians and other healthcare professionals to recognize and treat patients suffering from several life-threatening emergencies. The activity will provide instructional material to physicians and other healthcare professionals to guide them in completing basic life-saving skills. Upon completing this activity, participants will have the ability to analyze a cardiac medical emergency and implement basic life-saving skills to increase victims’ chances of survival. After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Identify and apply basic life-saving skills in a cardiac emergency to increase victim survival.
  • Initiation of the chain of survival
  • Describe BLS algorithms for Adults, Children, and Infants.
  • Describe the importance of early recognition and intervention of ventilation and AED use
  • Recognizing and treating choking
  • Identifying and treating opioid overdose
